PERILLA (Perilla frutescens), like mint and basil, is a plant that belongs to the Labiatae family, and grows wild in China, Japan and Korea where it is also used as a food for making salads and sushi. There is scientific evidence to prove that this plant is able to inhibit the release of histamine without producing the typical side effects of synthetic antihistamines such as drowsiness and poor ability to concentrate. The most valuable property of this plant is its action against allergies such as asthma, rhinitis and atopic dermatitis, thanks to the particular flavonoids contained in the seeds that turn out to be important antioxidants for the prevention of allergies and on the capacity of action it possesses against immunoglobulin E: in fact, it succeeds in lowering its elevated values that are typically found in the face of an allergic attack.
