Rhubarb mother tincture administered in small doses, acts as a bitter-digestive (stimulation of gastric juice secretion); at higher doses, due to the presence of anthraquinone glycosides, it acts as a stimulant of intestinal peristalsis, so rhubarb is used in chronic constipation with great benefits.

Rhubarb also has cholagogic activities and is therefore indicated in the treatment of chronic liver disease.
