Dioscorea, is an herbaceous perennial plant widespread in Central America and Canada and possesses several beneficial properties due to the presence of phytosteroids, diosgenin and tannins. Diosgenin, contained in dioscorea, is a substance similar to progesterone, a female hormone regulator whose effects it modulates and complements in perfect synergy with antispasmodic anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant properties.
