Dietary supplement based on Cistus and Echinacea. Cistus contains a high percentage of polyphenols with a special composition, which differentiates it and gives it a distinct anti-inflammatory ability. Some investigations have shown that polyphenols have the ability to bind to bacteria, preventing their colonization. More recent studies seem to confirm the direct, nonspecific inhibition toward a wide range of pathogens; in fact, Cistus extract interacts directly with the coating glycoproteins (capsid) of influenza viruses, thus blocking their binding to cellular receptors. In addition, the extract acts on viral surface proteins such as of Rhinoviruses (i.e., without capsid), which are responsible for common colds. The antiviral action occurs in the early stages of infection and without toxic effects, and its nonspecificity also gives it the property of not developing resistance in viruses, contrary to some antiviral drugs.

ECHINACEA PURPUREA is a very popular remedy for cold and flu symptoms and is the plant most supported by clinical studies boasting its immunomodulating and active action on symptoms. The extract of the whole plant, has been shown to interact directly and nonspecifically with viral hemagglutinins, inhibiting the ability of viruses to penetrate inside cells and thus replicate.

Thus, the extract exerts a dual action against certain pathogens affecting the respiratory system: a direct, nonspecific effect on viruses and bacteria (such as Streptococcus Haemophilus inflenzae and Staphylococcus aureus) and an anti-inflammatory effect, supporting its use to control symptoms associated with respiratory infections.
