Folk medicine has usedPineapple for centuries as an adjuvant to physiological digestive processes, due to the presence of bromelain, which facilitates the digestion of proteinaceous foods. Bromelain is the main component of the Pineapple stem; it is a family of proteolytic enzymes also endowed with other activities: anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory action. A peculiar and widespread use is in the imperfections caused by cellulite; in fact, it is well known how excessive water-saline retention in the subcutaneous tissues contributes, together with lipid deposition in the adipose tissue, to the pathogenesis of cellulite and the formation of the so-called orange peel. Through a removal of water and salts accumulated in the subcutaneous tissue and to a stimulation of diuresis, Ananas Stem Bromelain can facilitate the restoration of normal skin trophism and the disappearance of lesions typical of cellulite. For these reasons, it can be included in the low-calorie diets of obese or overweight individuals, especially when water retention is suspected of contributing to body weight gain.
