Magnesium (Mg) is widely found in foods, particularly in green leafy vegetables, wheat germ, dried fruits including almonds and walnuts, and sea and freshwater fish such as herring, cod, and carp. A balanced diet normally provides a sufficient amount of this element, but there are nevertheless situations or periods in life when significant amounts of Magnesium are lost or consumed, for example, in situations of prolonged stress typical of hectic modern life, in cases of excessive sweating especially when related to intense physical activity, or due to prolonged diarrhea and vomiting. Magnesium 500 is a dietary supplement containing Magnesium oxide (also called Magnesia) and chelated Magnesium, indicated in cases of low dietary intake and/or increased Magnesium requirements. Magnesium oxide supplementation has the advantage of having a very high Magnesium content, while chelated Magnesium, being protein-bound, is absorbed very easily in the intestines. Magnesium can also be used as a short-term laxative or as an antacid; some studies also show that magnesium could prevent osteoporosis and calm muscle-tensive migraines.
